Top SchoolSebastian Wagner is a Principal Engineer and solutions architect with 13 years of professional experience, currently shaping architecture and delivery at Xero from Christchurch, New Zealand. He is a hands-on technical leader who moves between strategic architecture roles and full-stack implementation, with a track record of driving platform-level change as Xero’s Architecture Director and Product Architect. As a long-time Apache PMC member and founder of Apache OpenMeetings, he blends enterprise engineering discipline with open-source stewardship—contributing UI and backend fixes, PDF/file handling tests, and whiteboard improvements to a widely used conferencing project. He also runs Arrakeen Solutions, providing open-source consulting and commercial hosting for OpenMeetings, reflecting an entrepreneurial streak alongside corporate leadership. Comfortable across Java, web front-ends, and distributed systems, he is known for translating complex requirements into pragmatic, testable solutions and for sustaining community-driven projects at production scale. An often-overlooked detail: his career spans both consultancy and product roles, giving him rare empathy for operational realities when designing architecture.
