Top SchoolSimon Barke is a physicist and postdoctoral researcher with 12 years of experience advancing gravitational-wave science and precision space metrology, currently based at the University of Florida. He earned a PhD focusing on low-frequency space-based gravitational wave observatories—part of an ESA-selected mission slated for launch in 2034—and has hands-on experience designing and testing metrology breadboards and high-frequency laser subsystems at the Max Planck Institute. His work spans fundamental physics experiments (including dark-matter searches) and public engagement through LIGO outreach, blending deep technical expertise with science communication. Having lived and worked in Germany, the US, and Tanzania, he brings a global perspective and a track record of leading complex, interdisciplinary projects from concept to prototype.
