Senior🎓
Top SchoolSjoerd Bruijn is a postdoctoral researcher at MOVE, Faculty of Human Movement Sciences, with 11 years of experience probing the mechanisms of human gait stability from PhD work to international postdoc positions. He combines quantitative methods for measuring steady-state, proactive, and reactive gait stability with cutting-edge EEG techniques to identify brain structures that underpin balance and fall prevention. His research bridges behavioural biomechanics and neurophysiology, aiming to translate fundamental insights into reduced socioeconomic burden from falls in aging populations. Having worked at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and KU Leuven, he brings deep experimental rigor and longitudinal expertise in gait analysis. An unexpected strength is his focus on the full lifespan perspective—linking infancy, healthy adulthood, and frailty—to reveal common principles of locomotor control.
