Top SchoolSmail Kourta is a software engineer with 8 years of experience bridging machine learning research and production engineering, currently at Canonical after driving RL data infrastructure at NYU Abu Dhabi. He designed gRPC-based pipelines and Python/C++ libraries that sped up model training and experimentation by multiple factors, and built distributed Ray scripts that collected millions of datapoints for experiments. Comfortable across the stack, Smail has delivered Jamstack web platforms, real-time manufacturing monitoring systems, and automated CI/CD and onboarding workflows for startups and research groups. His research includes a published e-graph-based term rewriting system implemented in Rust that improved prior results, reflecting a rare mix of systems-level programming and ML research. He has led teams, mentored students, and established hiring and certification processes, showing strong operational and people skills in addition to technical depth. Based in Abu Dhabi, he combines academic rigor from ESI and Université de Paris with hands-on product experience across Europe and the UAE.
