Summary
🤩
RockstarSofie Van Hoecke is an associate professor at IDLab, Ghent University–imec, with a PhD and deep research roots from Ghent University focused on combining machine learning and semantic technologies for predictive maintenance and predictive healthcare. She transitioned from postdoctoral research and lecturing to coordinating ICT research, bringing both academic rigor and applied engineering perspective to interdisciplinary problems. Her work bridges AI, knowledge representation and real-world sensor-driven systems, emphasizing actionable predictions rather than purely theoretical models. Outside academia she coaches children at CoderDojo Tielt, cultivating early digital literacy through hands-on tools like Scratch, Arduino and Blender—an indicator of her commitment to translating complex tech into accessible learning. Although formally recorded experience years are limited, her long academic trajectory reflects sustained impact in research, teaching and community outreach.
