Top SchoolStephen Houser is a veteran technology leader and educator with over three decades of hands-on experience in software development, IT leadership, and academic technology strategy, currently serving as Senior Director for Academic Technology at Bowdoin College. He blends executive-level program and team leadership with deep technical expertise—ranging from x86 assembly and OS internals to mobile app development—and has shipped numerous iOS and Android apps while continuing to teach operating systems, networking, and robotics. Stephen’s career bridges operational IT (networking, databases, infrastructure) and creative, interdisciplinary work in digital studies, art, and gaming, often translating academic needs into practical technical solutions. An adjunct faculty who still delights in buffer overflow demos, he pairs a tinkerer’s curiosity—woodworking, scouting, and outdoor life—with a long record of mentoring, strategy, and published seminars that advance technology in higher education.
