Summary

Senior🎓
Top SchoolSteve Cline is a seasoned GemStone DBA and Smalltalk specialist with over two decades of experience modernizing mission-critical systems in finance, utilities, and telecommunications and eight years focused on DevOps for core business object databases. He blends deep object-oriented expertise (VisualWorks/VisualAge Smalltalk, ENVY) with practical automation, unit testing, and SOA practices to improve deployment and maintenance workflows. At ICE he automates and operationalizes GemStone maintenance; earlier roles include architecting financial settlement systems and re-architecting telephony provisioning for greater reuse and testability. Known for mentoring teams, building developer tools, and driving process improvements (from build czar to pager-to-wiki operational fixes), he delivers reliable, test-first solutions that reduce mean time to repair. An interesting non-obvious detail: his background spans biology and aquaculture at the graduate level, reflecting a long-standing aptitude for disciplined, systems-level thinking beyond software.
