Top SchoolThomas Amberg is a professor and maker focused on engineering and teaching Internet of Things technologies, bringing 12 years of professional experience and deep Swiss technical roots from an ETH Zurich computer science background. He founded Yaler GmbH in 2011, translating hands-on embedded and connectivity expertise into a commercial service while continuing academic leadership at FHNW since 2018. Prior to academia and entrepreneurship he spent over a decade as a software engineer at Oberon microsystems, combining low-level systems know-how with practical product development. Based in Zurich, he blends research, classroom mentorship, and startup pragmatism to bridge theory and real-world IoT deployments. Colleagues describe him as someone who still prefers building prototypes and shipping working hardware/software rather than only writing papers.
