Top SchoolTom Balcombe is a Senior Go Software Engineer based in Cardiff with six years’ experience building cloud-native integrations, data pipelines and operator-friendly infrastructure primarily on AWS using Terraform and Go. At Xiatech he progresses from junior to senior roles driving technical leadership, designing scalable end-to-end pipelines, mentoring peers, and owning key public repositories such as jsonata-go and a markdown-to-confluence GitHub Action he authored. He blends hands-on engineering with strong product collaboration—writing high- and low-level designs, establishing testing frameworks (LocalStack) and reusable Terraform modules to accelerate delivery. Previously he transitioned into software from data roles at EDF and Bristol Energy, where he automated ETL and upskilled teams in Python, giving him a pragmatic appreciation for both analytics and production systems. Colleague-of-the-month recognitions and repeated promotions reflect his ability to ship complete, well-tested solutions and lift the capability of teams around him.
