Top SchoolVivek Thampy is a Staff Scientist based in the San Francisco Bay Area with 11 years of research experience at national labs, blending condensed matter physics and materials science with practical software development. He designs and executes advanced X-ray scattering and in-situ experiments for batteries, perovskites, and additively manufactured metals while building Python tools to automate large-scale data reduction and visualization. His background spans instrument commissioning, user support at SSRL/NSLS-II, and algorithm development for high-volume photon counting and image processing. Trained as a physicist with a PhD from Johns Hopkins and an engineering undergraduate from IIT Roorkee, he pairs deep experimental expertise with production-oriented coding skills (Python, some C/Matlab). Notably, he has moved beyond bench science to create on-the-fly analysis pipelines that accelerate decision-making during experiments, enabling real-time refinement of measurements.
