Senior🎓
Top SchoolWimpie West is an Analytics Engineer with 11 years of experience applying process control, modelling and machine learning to heavy industry problems. He holds a Cum Laude Master's in Electrical and Electronics Engineering where he studied optimal control (including a thesis on Formula One car optimization), and has translated that control-theory rigour into production ML, soft sensors and asset health solutions across mining and chemical operations. At Sasol he progressed from Process Control Engineer to Senior Applied Data Scientist, building mixed-integer optimisers, soft sensors and process-mining tools; later consulting roles scaled those capabilities into Azure Data Lake/Databricks architectures and real-time truck arrival predictions. Now at Element Six, he blends domain expertise with data engineering to improve operational decision-making and uptime, while also focusing on team development and practical deployment. Colleagues know him for turning deep process intuition into robust, deployable models that measurably improve throughput and stability.
