Top SchoolZach Zhao is a software engineer with 11 years of experience who blends academic rigor and product-focused engineering across AI and consumer platforms. Graduating from the University of Maryland at 20, he has published research in AAAI and AAMAS and applied those ideas to production—training and deploying LLMs for enterprise use at Amazon and improving label quality on 300k+ transcripts. He’s built infrastructure and features at Duolingo (including the Duolingo English Test) and contributed to money engineering at Robinhood, while also founding a React/Firebase startup that won a Mokhtarzada Hatchery grant. Comfortable with research-grade experiments on large graphs and scalable cloud deployments, he has run AWS EC2 and SageMaker workloads for projects ranging from COVID contract tracing to kidney-exchange optimization. Based in San Francisco, Zach pairs curiosity about AI with a track record of shipping production systems that bridge novel research and real-world impact.
