Top SchoolZeyuan Hu is a database-focused software engineer and PhD student with 11 years of experience building and optimizing query engines and distributed data infrastructure. He has driven production work across Presto, IBM Db2, and AWS Timestream—delivering end-to-end type support, metadata integrations, and query semantics improvements that reduced tuning and configuration effort in multiple products. Currently at ByteDance and researching query optimization and execution at UT Austin, he combines hands-on engineering with rigorous research under advisor Daniel P. Miranker. His background spans systems development (C/C++, Java, Go), cloud and deployment automation, and applied ML techniques for performance problems, reflecting an unusual blend of database internals and practical cloud production experience. Notably, he has a track record of fixing critical defects that saved key deals and of redesigning components to make query behavior more predictable for end users.
